FAQ: FAQ

HOW DO I BALANCE EXTRACURRICULAR AND ACADEMIC ACTIVITIES?

Keeping a schedule and staying organized both help me balance academics and extracurricular activities. I also think it is important to choose what you do wisely. Overbearing yourself with too many activities/high level classes leads to spreading yourself too thin and not being able to explore your interests. Choose the things you genuinely enjoy/are interested in. Remember that you shouldn’t be doing things just for college. Do things that can build who you are and help shape your future years in high school and in college.

DO MY GRADES MATTER AS A FRESHMAN?

Broad answer: Yes. I think there is a misconception that freshman year grades don’t matter at all, but they do (just not as much as sophomore and junior). Even though the grades don’t count towards your GPA, colleges will still be sent your transcript containing those grades. Your freshman grades also influence what level classes you get into and take your sophomore year. However, this isn’t something to stress about. Colleges will understand that freshman year is a new experience for a lot of people and it can take some time to become acclimated (which is why these grades typically don’t matter as much as your 10th and 11th grades). Just remember to try your best always and that’s all you can do.

ARE HIGH SCHOOL EVENTS FUN TO ATTEND? WHAT ARE THEY LIKE?

YES. High school events are a lot of fun to attend. It is a good opportunity to spend time with your classmates that you may not usually see outside of school. Also supporting your fellow Millers raises school spirit overall and when it is your time to shine either on the field or on a stage it is such a great feeling when you have your students support for something you worked really hard for.

WHAT IF MY LOCKER IS NOWHERE NEAR MY CLASSES, WILL I HAVE TIME TO USE IT?

If you would like to use your locker, there is time in the morning, during lunch and after school. But one nice thing about MHS is that you can carry your backpack around with you making it so you do not need to use your locker as much as in MMS.
